New York, NY. February 2012. This February 8^th ASTONISH Magazine, a publication dedicated to covering the zeitgeist of Fashion & Art, launched their second issue: “Outer Beauty,” and hosted a Fashion Show featuring Ken Chen S.F. at W.i.P. in Tribeca.

At this hip art gallery-meets club by the founders of Greenhouse and Collective Hardware, fashion insiders and celebrities alike came together celebrate the second issue of ASTONISH and to view the newest men’s and women’s collection by lauded rising talent Ken Chen.

Guests of ASTONISH Magazine’s official New York Fashion Week event included Designers Ninh Nguyen of Ninh Collection, Derek Tian of Black Lapel, Brian Igel of Boy Meets Girl and Project Runway Alum Jay Sario, musicians such as Grammy Nominated Artist Emily King, Jazz Legend Marion Cowings, R&B artist AC Lincoln and entertainer Tokyo Black. Major Fashion Stylists such as Engie Hassan, Celebrity Photographers such as Montana USA and August Young, top Editors such as Kate Wang, Kristen Irby, Rebecca Alexander and Marv Valladares, as well as reality television stars such as Stephen – The Salon Guy and Cognac Wellerlane were also on hand to cover the show. Fashionistas enjoyed hip cocktails by Sakiri Vodka, delicious wines and fruity Moscatos by Lunae Moscato, and the award-winning gourmet Macarons by Vendôme Haute Parisien Macarons.

ASTONISH Magazine’s second issue is entitled “Outer Beauty.” Editor-In-Chief Forvana Etonne asks eloquently: “What is Outer Beauty? Is it a reflection of the purity, love, madness and conflict that are inside all of us? Or is it a superficial ploy, a mask to conceal what is really inside?”

ASTONISH issue two features some of the best photographers, designers, models and writers from around the world exploring the issue of Outer Beauty. Features include ASTONISH Generation profiles on model Lucy McIntosh, the face of Australian Fashion Week, photographer Kosuke Matsuo and designer Phuong My. Runway greats such as Gaspard Yurkievich and Rochambeau have their recent collections featured alongside interviews, while Costume designer Jacqueline West and Pussycat Dolls singer Vanessa Curry are also highlighted. The issue is rounded out by a host of editorials and features on global fashion artists including three “Euro Spotlight” interviews.

Born in Taiwan and once competing internationally in Taiwan and Singapore as a Gold Medaling figure skater, Ken Chen has always been a driven, determined artist. His designs focus on the balance of humanity, nature and the architecture of the man-made world. The new collection emphasizes fit, with strong shoulders, accentuated waists and lots of shapes and variation in the jackets. The observant viewer of his collection will also notice understated floral details: he watched many time-elapsed videos of plants growing to inspire the movement and detailing of his pieces.
